A Challenge

Was on myspace today, and I happened to find this comment:

so hows the adult life treating u ? im so bored. im killing time so im commenting everyone lol…

The comment is from a recent high school graduate to another recent high school grad. As I live longer in this world, I am starting to be more and more surprised by the philosophies and ideas that people live by. For about 2 years I have been following a blog written by twins Alex and Brett Harris: The Rebelution. They recently coauthored a book entitled Do Hard Things. That is the message of their blog as well. The reason to do hard things is because that is what Christ calls us to do! God expects us to do our very best for Him!

As Christians we are called to spread the gospel and further the kingdom of God. If we sit around in our easy chairs watching TV all day or sit behind the computer surfing the web, and we do nothing to further the kingdom of God, then we have sinned. Because God commanded and called us to do something much greater with our time.

This philosophy is much different then the world’s philosophy! Surfing myspace and hanging out doing “nothing” is fun! Its time we Christians seriously evaluate how much time we spend having the world’s type of “fun”. It is possible to enjoy being useful! It is possible to have fun doing hard things; we just have to discover how!

When we get bored, what do we do? Comment on everyone’s myspace? Follow link after link from one website to another finding interesting but almost useless information? How hard would it be to dedicate ourselves to one particular cause and then work for it? Or perhaps find one subject and learn about it thoroughly? My sister who is 14 has mentioned wanting to learn more about the Holocaust. If she uses her spare time to research and learn about that she will have a wealth of knowledge at her command as well as skills of research that will open the world to her.

In conclusion, that comment was a challenge to me. I need to be doing something when I am bored. Perhaps I myself can have a back-up to do list that I can pull out when I am bored so that I can be using my time wisely.

About Melanie

My Being Purpose Statement: As a part of Christ's Bride and as one of His precious treasures whom He redeemed with His precious blood, I purpose in my heart to love and adore Him with all of my heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37). I want to be beautiful in the sight of my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I will therefore pursue holiness (1 Peter 1:16) that I might worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness (1 Chronicles 16:29, Psalms 96:9) and go and proclaim His love, sacrifice and salvation to others who have not heard that I may have the beautiful feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things (Isaiah 52:7, Romans 10:15). My Life Purpose Statement: I desire to serve my Redeemer and Savior Jesus Christ throughout my entire life by ministering to girls and women. I pray that I will be able to bring many girls and women to the Cross of Christ that they may find salvation from a loving and gracious Savior. It is my heart’s desire to encourage girls and women who know the Savior to deepen their relationship with Him and to fall more and more in love with Him. I also want to serve women by assisting them in their everyday lives whether I am rolling up my sleeves to work alongside them or am connecting them with people, ministries, and or resources that will be helpful and beneficial to them. By God’s grace and power, through His Spirit, and for His glory will I endeavor to fulfill this purpose
